Melrose Ridge Apartments are located adjacent to Chatham Oaks at
4435 & 4455 Melrose Avenue, Iowa City.
 
The Melrose Ridge apartments were built in 2007 to provide affordable independent living for persons with a mental illness.  Melrose Ridge is intended for persons with a disability and specifically designed for individuals with a mental illness.  Melrose Ridge was designed to promote independent living while offering opportunities for socialization, learning and community supports.
 
Each building has 8 one-bedroom apartments and 1 two-bedroom apartment.  Section 8 rental assistance is accepted and available.  With Section 8 assistance, qualified tenants pay approximately 30% of their monthly income for rent and utilities.  Melrose Ridge is 100% handicapped accessible.
 
There is currently a waiting list for the Melrose Ridge apartments.  If you are interested in being placed on the list, contact the Program Coordinator.
 

 

 

Common areas in both buildings allow for socialization.  Each building has a lounge area with satellite TV and comfy furniture.

 

 

 

 

A computer with Internet access is available in the common area of each building.

 

 

Apartments include a full kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom(s).  On-site laundry is available in each building.

 

 

A city bus stop is located next door.  The Melrose Express runs hourly from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday.

 

 Services

 

Supported Community Living (SCL) services are available including assistance with medication management, physical and mental health monitoring, budgeting, grocery shopping, meal preparation, crisis management, interpersonal relations and more.  Tenants may choose to receive services from any SCL provider in the area.

 

Tenants with a disability are offered a community needs assessment at move-in and at least annually.  On-call staff are available for emergencies.  Transportation coordination is available for things such as grocery shopping, appointments and community events.  A small fee may apply.
